ROSEMARY OAKESHOTT

Artist's Statement

My main artistic practice involves site specific drawing. I am interested in creating work, normally 3-dimensional, which draws its inspiration from a specific site as well as intervening in the site.

I am a chronic scavenger, hoarder, and recycler, and for the 'remarks' group exhibitions I have used mostly material which I already had or could scavenge in order to explore ideas about classification. I am especially interested in exploring the tension between the role of classification as a system of control, and its role as a  provider of security. I like to use found and discarded media, challenging their classification as worthless, and aiming to present them as being of some value.
