These are five images selected from my animation 'Childhood Pier' which looks at memories of my childhood and their connection to my present life.

People associate the sea with their childhood. My starting point for this project came from the film 'Dark City' directed by Alex Proyas, which featured flashbacks to a man's past as a boy standing on a pier looking out to sea. This man has lost his memory of his past, leaving him unsure of his identity. He tries to unravel the mystery of his past to find out who he is.

These five images show the basic narrative of the animation. Starting with the derelict pier (Brighton), representing the present, the bird in flight leads the viewer back in time through the time tunnel to my past to an expression of a certain childhood memory.

Memories and identity form a major part of my artwork. This project looks at how certain memories of our past leave their traces on our psychological make-up, whereas other memories are lost.
